Motion Vocabulary

| force | an action that changes or maintains the motion of an object. It can be a push or a pull. |
| motion | when an object moves from one place to another |
| position | point where something is located |
| direction | the path something takes, the line something moves along, or the way it points. |
| distance | amount of space between two things |
| time | a measure of how long things take |
| mass | the amount of matter that makes up an object |
| speed | the distance something travels in a certain amount of time |
| graph | visual representation of data |
| constant | something that remains the same or does not change |
| contact force | are forces in which two or more objects touch |
| gravity | an invisible force that pulls objects toward the center of the earth or to the ground. |
| friction | contact force that opposes motion when two objects touch (slop/ stop) |
| non-contact force | a force that acts on an objects without physically contacting it |
| axis | the path something takes, the line something moves along, or the way it points. |
| stationary | means not moving or stopping |
| increasing | to make or become bigger or greater |
| decreasing | to become smaller or to make something less in size, amount, number or intensity |
| relative | means in relation to or compared to |
