Animal Body Plans
Chapter 4 Lesson 2 Notecards
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Tissue | A group of similar cells that perform a specific function |
| Organ | A group of different tissues |
| Radial symmetry | If many imaginary lines can be drawn through a central point to divide into two mirror images, than it has radial symmetry |
| Bilateral symmetry | If only one line of symmetry can be drawn to divide it into halves that are mirror images, than it has bilateral symmetry |
| An animal’s body plan | The organization of an animal’s cells into higher levels of structure, including tissues, organs, and organ systems, helps to describe an animal’s body plan |
| How the structures of animals are related to their symmetry | Asymmetrical = some cells, no tissues, Radial = has tissues and usually has organ systems, Bilateral = has organ systems |
| What asymmetrical body type means and an example of an animal | Has some cells but no tissues Sponge |
| What radial body symmetry means and an example of an animal | Has a complex body plan with tissues and usually has organ systems Jellyfish |
| What bilateral body symmetry means and an example of an animal | Has organ systems Capybara |
