| Brain Stem | Does not do the higher order brain processes. Brain stem deals with lower level everyday functions. Heart rate, breathing etc. |
| Midbrain | Reflex center for visual and auditory stimuli, orients ears and eyes towards the source of the stimulus. |
| Pons | connects higher and lower brain centers and coordinates the actions of the respiratory centers in the medulla oblongata. |
| Medulla oblongata | contains respiratory control center, reflexes like coughing and breathing cardiac control center, vasomotor center |
| Reticular formation | Turns brain on. Decrease in activity= sleep. |
| Cerebellum | Controls and coordinates the interaction of skeletal muscles. Walking, gait, posture, balance and muscle coordination. |
