| what is homeostasis? | state of balance that your body thrives to maintain. Your body will try to maintain certain functions at set points. |
| What is a negative feedback? | They “negate” a change (such as a drop in temperature) by creating a response (production of heat) that is opposite in direction to the initial disturbance. |
| What is a Positive feedback | positive feedback tends to amplify or reinforce the change that is occurring. Positive feedback control systems are stimulatory. not good for maintaining homeostasis |
| What is a electrovalent or ionic bond? | A chemical bond formed by the transfer of electrons from one atom to another |
| what is a covalent bond? | A chemical bond formed by the sharing of one or more pairs of electrons between the outer energy levels of two atoms |
| what happens as the concentration of hydroxide ions (OH–) increases? | The solution becomes more basic and pH rises |
| What are the different functions of the skin? | Protection, Thermoregulation, sensation, excretion vitamin D production. |
| What are the two types of bone marrow? | Red & yellow – produces red blood cells and stores energy as fat. |
| Energy used for muscular contraction come from the hydrolysis of? | ATP |
| what is an agonist? | Another name is a prime mover. it is used to describe a muscle that directly performs a specific movement. The movement produced by a muscle acting as a prime mover is described as the “action” or “function” of that muscle. |
| what is an antagonist? | muscles that, when contracting, directly oppose prime movers (or agonists). They are relaxed while the prime mover is contracting to produce movement |
