Rock Cycle and plate tectonics

VocabularyDefinition
Ring of Fire A string of volcanoes ad sites of seismic activity or earthquakes around the edges of the Pacific Ocean.
Ocean Trench Long Narrow depression on the sea floor. These channels are the deepest part of the ocean and Earth.
Sea Floor Spreading the process of divergent plate boundaries where two tectonic plates slowly separate and molten material rises up from within the mantle to fill up the opening.
Mid-Ocean Ridge An undersea volcanic mountain chain where new ocean floor is produced at divergent plate boundary.
Weathering The process of breaking down rock on Earth's surface
Mechanical Weathering the process which rock broken down into smaller pieces physically
Chemical Weathering Chemical changes cause the breaking down of the rocks
