Animal body plans
Ch. 4 L-2
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| tissue | A group of similar cells that preform a specific function. |
| organ | A body structure that is composed of different kinds of tissue that work together. |
| radial symmetry | A body plan in which any number of imaginary lines all pass through a central part and divide the animal into two mirror images. |
| bilateral symmetry | A body plan in which a single imaginary line divides the body into left and right sides that mirror each other. |
| what is an animal's body plan? | The organization of an animal's cells into higher levels of structure, including tissues, organs, and organ systems. |
| how is an animal's body structure related to their symmetry? | When they don't have symmetry, they have specialized cells but no tissues. With radial symmetry -complex bodies, tissues, organ systems. Bilateral symmetry-organ systems. |
| What is asymmetrical body systems and an example. | grows up. EX. coral |
| What is radial body symmetry and an example. | If imaginary lines can be drawn to splat the animal up. EX. Jellyfish. |
| What is bilateral symmetry and an example. | If only 1 line of symmetry can be drawn to make it into halves. EX. Butterfly. |
