Seasons

reasons for the seasons

TermDefinition
rotation The spinning of an object on its axis. It takes the Earth 24 hours to make a full rotation.
revolution The movement of one object in an orbit around another object. Earth makes one full revolution around the Sun every 365 and 1/4 days.
axis Imaginary line in which a geometric figure rotates on.
solstice Sunlight is at its maximum in one hemishere and the minimum in the opposite hemisphere
hemisphere One half of a sphere. The equator divides the Earth into the Northern and Southern Hemispheres.
equinox The day when the amount of daylight is equal in the Northern and Southern Hemisphere.
season A pattern of temperature on Earth based on the tilt of the Earth as it relates to the Sun.
