TermDefinition
pH levels how acidic or alkali a substance is. Ranges from 0-14, with 7 being neutral. closer to 0 is acidic and closer to 14 is alkali
Plasma membrane Also known as the cell membrane, this is what seperates the interior of the cells from the exterior environment. It protects the inside of the cell.
Mitochondria cell organelle which provides the cell with all of its energy. Known as the "powerhouse" of the cell.
Nucleus This is the portion of the cell responsible for holding all of the materials for DNA
Epidermis The most superficial layer of the skin responsible for protection adn waterproof. This layer is further divided into 5 sublayers. These layers are the stratum granulosum, stratum spinosum, and stratum basale.
Dermis Middle layer if the skin which provides strength and flexibility to the skin. Also contains sweat glands, hair follicles, and nerve endings.
Hypodermis Deepesrt layer of skin which is the cushion for the body and hold the fat cells which insulate the body.
Flat bones Bones which are made up of spongey layers in between two layers of compact bone. These are bones which primarily protect the organs. Some examples are the skull and rib cage.
Long bones Bones which are longer than they are wide. Some examples of these bones are the tibula and fibula as well as the femur.
Rectus abdominis Top layer of the abdominal muscles. These are the muscles that are responsible for the 6-pack appearance when you build this muscle up.
