| weather | short-term conditions of the atmosphere |
| climate | average weather conditions of an area |
| short-term variations | changes in weather and climate data for a short period of time |
| long-term trends | the overall changes in climate conditions over a long period of time |
| hydrometer | a device that measures the humidity (amount of water vapor) in the air |
| greenhouse gases | gases that absorb and reflect infrared radiation in the atmosphere keeping the heat near Earth's surface |
| greenhouse effect | the warming of Earth's global temperature due to heat trapped by greenhouse gases |
| per capita consumption | the amount of natural resources used by a person each year |
| natural resource | a material found in nature that humans get and use |
| renewable resource | a natural resource that replenishes relatively quickly |
| nonrenewable resource | a natural resource that takes millions of years to replenish |
| synthetic material | a man-made product created from natural resources |
