Natural Selection Unit Vocabulary

TermDefinition
evolution the process by which populations change over time.
artificial selection humans select plants or animals for breeding to get desired traits.
natural selection process where organisms that inherit desired traits survive and reproduce more successfully.
variation the differences in traits between members of the same species.
mutation spontaneous change in genetic material within a species.
adaptation an inherited trait that helps an organism reproduce in its environment
extinction when all members of a species have died
fitness an organisms ability to survive and reproduce in its environment
