| infectious agents | also called pathogens; can cause infection or disease. |
| viruses | tiny, non-living particles made up mostly of a substance called nucleic acid surrounded by protein that cause disease. They reproduce by infecting a cell. |
| bacteria | A unicellular, prokaryotic organism that can be either harmful or beneficial. |
| fungi | mostly microscopic organisms that are closely related to animals. They include spore producing organisms such as yeast and molds. |
| parasites | an organism that lives on or in a host organism and gets its food from or at the expense of its host. |
| immune system | System of organs that protects the body from infection. |
| homeostasis | The process of the body, or any living organism, maintaining a stable internal environment or balance. |
| Linnaean system | A method for classifying living organisms by their traits. |
| Domains | The highest level of the Linnaean system of classification; above the kingdom level. |
| asexual reproduction | Reproduction where a single parent organism produces offspring that are genetically identical. |
| mitosis | A process where a single cell divided into two genetically identical daughter cells. |
