| Geosphere | the solid part of Earth, including the crust, mantle, and core. It's made up of rocks, minerals, soil, and sediments |
| Hydrosphere | the total amount of water on a planet. The hydrosphere includes water that is on the surface of the planet, underground, and in the air. |
| Atmosphere | the layer of gases that surrounds a planet, like Earth, composed primarily of nitrogen and oxygen, which is held in place by the planet's gravity and acts as a protective blanket, regulating temperature and providing the air we breathe |
| Biosphere | a global ecosystem composed of living organisms (biotic) and the abiotic (nonliving) factors from which they derive energy and nutrients. |
| Ecosystem | a community of organisms and their physical environment interacting together. |
| Weather | the conditions in the air above the earth such as wind, rain, or temperature, especially at a particular time over a particular area. |
| Climate | the long-term weather pattern in a region, typically averaged over 30 years |
| Air | the invisible mixture of gases (such as nitrogen and oxygen) that surrounds the Earth |
| Biotic (living) | living or once living components of a community |
| Abiotic (nonliving) | a non-living part of an ecosystem that shapes its environment, such as air, water, sunlight, rocks/soil, temperature |
