Water Cycle

| Hydrology | The study of water. |
| Water Cycle | Also called the Hydrologic Cycle. Process by which water is circulated between the Earth's oceans, atmosphere, and land. |
| Sun | Provides the energy that powers the water cycle. |
| condensation | happens when water vapor (gas) is COOLED and changes into a liquid |
| precipitation | rain, snow, sleet, or hail that falls from the clouds. |
| infiltration | happens when water on the surface filters into the ground |
| sublimation | happens when a solid changes to a gas without melting first |
| transpiration | happens when liquid water evaporates from plant leaves |
| runoff | precipitation that does not infiltrate into the soil or evaporate but flows across the land instead |
| groundwater | water that infiltrates into the soil, collects, and is stored in the ground |
| aquifer | a body of rock or sediment that stores groundwater and allows it to flow |
| evaporation | happens when liquid water is heated and changes into a gas |
