TermDefinition
Stomata Is the surface layers of the leave that has a small opening.
Transpiration Is when water evaporates from a plants leaves.
Embryo Is the young plant that develops from the zygote, or a fertilized egg.
Germination Happens when the embryo begins to grow again and pushes out of the seed.
Flower Is the reproductive structure of an angiosperms.
Pollination Is the transfer of pollen from male reproductive structures to female reproductive structures.
Describe the 3 functions of roots Roots anchor a plant to the ground, absorb water and minerals from the soil, and sometimes store food.
Describe the 2 functions of stems The stem brings substances to the plant’s roots and leaves and holds the plant up to be exposed to the sun.
Describe the function of leaves They use the suns energy and make photosynthesis with it.
Describe the 3 basic parts of a seed They have the coat, embryo, and usually fruit.
Tell me 3 ways a seed can be dispersed When seeds fall of in a different spot or if they fall in water and if an animal eats fruit.
Know and be able to label the structures of a flower The structures are sepals, petals, stamens, and pistils.
Know what each part of what the flower does The sepals protect the developing flower. The petals are attracted by their color and scent. The stamens produce the pollen. The pistils has an ovary that protects the seeds as they develop.
