Science Unit 6 Cells

organelles different structures that make up a cell and carries out a specific job
cells tiny building blocks that make up all living things
cell membrane a jelly-like substance inside a cell that holds organelles in place and helps the cell keep its shape
cell wall a strong, stiff outer layer found only in plant cells, helps protect the cell and gives it shape
cytoplasm jelly-like substance inside a cell that holds all the cell's organelles in place, also helps transport materials and gives the cell its shape.
nucleus control center of a cell that holds its DNA and directs its activities
chloroplasts small structures in plant cells that help them make food from sunlight through a process called photosynthesis.
microscope a tool that makes small things, like cells and bacteria, look much bigger so we can see them better
