TermDefinition
Stoma Opens and close to control when gasses enter and leave the leaf
Transpiration The process by which water evaporates from a plant’s leaves
Embryo The young plant that develops from the zygote, or fertilized egg
Germination Occurs when the embryo begins to grow again and pushes out of the seed
Flower Is the reproductive structure of an angiosperm
Pollination The transfer of pollen from male reproductive structures to female reproductive structures
Sepal When a flower is still a bud, it is enclosed by leaflike structures called sepals
Petal When sepals fold back, they reveal the flower’s colorful leaflike petals
Stamen The male reproductive parts
Pistil Female parts found in the center of most flowers
Ovary A hollow structure that protects seeds as they develop
Describe the 3 functions of roots They anchor plants in the ground, absorb water from the soil, and sometimes store food
Describe 2 functions of stems They carry substance between the plant’s roots and leaves, and the stem provides support for the plant
Describe the function of leaves Leaves capture the sun’s energy and carry out the food-making progress of photosynthesis
Describe the three basic parts of a seed Seed structure,Seed dispersal, and germination
Tell me three ways a seed. Can be dispersed Seeds can be dispersed through animals, they can be enclosed inclosed in barb-like structures that hook onto fur, and they can fall into rivers and oceans
Know and be able to label the structures of a flower A flower has sepals, petals, stamens, and pistils
Know what each part of the flower does Sepals protect the flower when it is still a bud, stamens are the male reproductive parts and pistils are the female reproductive parts
