TermDefinition
Root cap Protects root from injury as the root grows through the soil
Cambium Layer of cells which divides to produce new Phoelem and xylem
Stomata Small opening, or pores that open and close to control when gases enter and leave the leaf
Transpiration The process by which water evaporates from a plant leaves
Embryo The young plant that devoloped the zygote or fertilized eggs
Germination The sprouting of the embryo out of a seed; occurs when the embryo resumes its regrowth following dormancy
Flower Reproductive structure of an angiosperm
Pollination The transfer of pollen from male reproductive structures to female reproductive structures
3 functions of roots Anchor a plant in the ground, absorb water and minerals, and sometimes store food
2 functions of stems Carries substances between the plants roots and leaves, provides support for the plant and holds up the leaves so they are exposed to the sun
Function of leaves Capture the suns energy and carry out the food making process of photosynthesis
