| Term | Definition |

| Root cap | Protects root from injury as the root grows through the soil |
| Cambium | Layer of cells which divides to produce new Phoelem and xylem |
| Stomata | Small opening, or pores that open and close to control when gases enter and leave the leaf |
| Transpiration | The process by which water evaporates from a plant leaves |
| Embryo | The young plant that devoloped the zygote or fertilized eggs |
| Germination | The sprouting of the embryo out of a seed; occurs when the embryo resumes its regrowth following dormancy |
| Flower | Reproductive structure of an angiosperm |
| Pollination | The transfer of pollen from male reproductive structures to female reproductive structures |
| 3 functions of roots | Anchor a plant in the ground, absorb water and minerals, and sometimes store food |
| 2 functions of stems | Carries substances between the plants roots and leaves, provides support for the plant and holds up the leaves so they are exposed to the sun |
| Function of leaves | Capture the suns energy and carry out the food making process of photosynthesis |
