QuestionAnswer
Root cap Protects the root from injury as the root grows through the soil
Cambium A layer of cells which divides to produce new xylem and phloem
Stoma Small openings(pores) in the surface layers of the leaf
Transpiration The process of which water evaporates from the plant’s leaves
Embrye The young plant that develops from the zygote, or fertilized egg
Germination When the embryo begins to grow again and pushes out of the seed
Flower The reproductive structure of an angiosperm
Pollination The transfer of pollen made from male reproductive structures to female reproductive structures
Sepal A budded flower enclosed by leaflike structures
Stamen The male reproductive parts
Pistall The female parts found at the center of most flowers
Ovary A tube that protects the seeds as they develop
3 functions of roots Anchor a plant in the ground, absorb water and minerals from the soil, and sometimes store food
2 functions of stems Carry substances between a plant’s stems and leaves, and provide support for the plant to hold up the leaves so that they are exposed to the sun
Function of leaves Capture the sun’s energy to carry out photosynthesis
3 basic parts of a seed Embryo, stored food, seed coat
3 ways a seed can be dispersed Passing through a digestive system, enclosed n structures that hook onto fur or clothing, or the seeds fall off in a new area

What each part of a flower does Sepals protect the developing flower; petals attract pollinators; stamens are the male reproductive parts; pistils are the female reproductive parts
