What 2 ways can digestion be? digestion can be chemical or mechanical.
What's absortion ? Absortion is the process by which molecules are absorbed through the walls of the digestive system into the blood stream.
What's nutrients? Nutrients are substances in food that provide the raw materials the body's cells need to carry out processes.
What's elimination? Elimination is the removal of solid wastes from the body.
What is the pathway that food goes down in the correct order? 1 mouth, 2 Esophagus 3 stomach 4 small intestine 5 large intestine 6 rectum.
What are ALL the parts of the digestive system? Mouth,Salivary gland,Epiglottis,Esophagus, stomach, pancreas, liver, gallbladder, small intestine, large intestine.
What are Enzymes? Enzymes are proteins that speed up chemical reactions in the body.
What does the mouth do? The mouth mechanical (teeth) and chemical (enzymes) digestion begins.
What does the Esophagus do? The Esophagus is a muscular tube that connects the mouth to the stomach. Food is pushed down through this passageways by peristalsis which is a wave like contraction that pushes down food.
What does the stomach do? The stomach from the Esophagus: stomach muscles churn food (mechanical digestion) while the enzyme pepsin, breaks down proteins ( chemical digestion). all food remains here until all solid material is liquid (chyme)
What does the small intestine do? The small intestine is where almost all chemical digestion and absorption of nutrients takes place.
What does the large intestine do? The large intestine is where water is absorbed into the blood stream and remaining materials are readied for elimination from the body as feces.
What does the Rectum do? The Rectum is a short tube at the end of the large intestine where waste material is compressed into solid form.
