ante, inter, & -ate, -en, -ify, -ize

| prejudice | (n) an unfair feeling of dislike for a person or group because of race, sex, religion, etc. |
| posthumous | (adj.) occurring awarded or appearing after the death of the originator |
| posterity | (n) all future generations |
| postpone | (v) arrange to move times |
| posterior | (n) near or toward the back of something |
| -ate | When added to a noun forms an adjective which means “to make ______”. |
| For example | the noun fortune becomes the adjective fortunate when -ate is added. |
| fortunate | (adj) favored by good fortune or luck |
| passionate | (adj) showing or caused by strong feelings or passion |
| accurate | (adj) correct in all details; exact |
| ventilate | (v) to allow fresh air to enter and move through a room |
| mediate | (v) to intervene between people in a dispute in order to bring about an agreement or reconciliation |
| -ify | When added to a an adjective or noun– it makes a verb! |
| For example | the noun beauty becomes the verb beautify when -ify is added. |
| classify | (v) to arrange in classes or categories |
| terrify | (v) to cause or make terror in |
| glorify | (v) to praise or honor or make/show glory |
| vilify | (v) to speak or write about in an abusively disparaging manner. |
| mystify | (v) to confuse someone completely; to make a mystery |
| -en | When added to a noun–words become verbs. |
| For example | Threat (noun) becomes threaten (verb). |
| hasten | (v) to make haste; to speed up |
| chasten | (v) to make chaste by way of rebuke; to make simple and restrained; morally upright |
| -ize | Added to a noun or adjective to form a verb. |
| For example | A critic (noun) can criticize (verb). |
| criticize | (v) to express disapproval of someone or something; to talk about the faults of something |
| mesmerize | (v) to hold the attention of someone entirely to the point that nothing else is seen or noticed. |
| authorize | (v) to give official permission for or approval. |

| foreshadow | (v) a warning or indication of a future event; inform someone of a danger or possible problem. |
| antebellum | (adj) occurring or existing before a particular war, especially the American Civil War |
| premier | (n) first in importance, order, or position; leading |
| A.M. (Ante Meridiem) | This is the most common use. It's Latin for "before midday" or "before noon." |
| Antecedent | Something that comes before another. In grammar, it's the noun that a pronoun refers to (e.g. "The woman loves her dog" woman is the antecedent). |
