TermDefinition
Climate the average weather conditions for a specific area over a long period of time, usually at least 30 years
Tropical relating to, or characteristic of, the tropics, which is the region around the equator. Tropical places are hot and humid, with temperatures high enough to support plant growth year-round
Temperate a climate that is moderate, or in the middle, and doesn't have extremes
Polar Of or relating to the North or South Pole, or the region around it.
Global Cooling a long-term decrease in the Earth's average temperature
Meteor space rock that enters Earth's atmosphere and burns up, creating a bright streak of light in the sky
Meteorite space rock that falls to Earth's surface
Ocean Currents the continuous movement of ocean water in a specific direction:
Density the amount of mass in a substance or object compared to its volume
Greenhouse Effect the process where certain gases in Earth's atmosphere trap heat from the sun, warming the planet and allowing life to exist as we know it
Greenhouse Gases atmospheric gases, like carbon dioxide and methane, that absorb heat radiated from Earth's surface, trapping it in the atmosphere and contributing to the planet's temperature regulation
Atmosphere The layer of gases that surrounds Earth, made up of mostly nitrogen and oxygen. It protects Earth from outer space, keeps us warm, and is where weather occurs
