biosphere all the living things on Earth
hydrosphere all Earth’s water, including liquid, vapor, and ice forms

geosphere all the rocks and minerals that make up Earth
crust Earth’s outermost layer of solid rock, including both dry land and the ocean floor
mantle a layer of hot, solid rock directly below the crust
magma a molten mixture of rock-forming substances, gasses, and water from the mantle
outer core a layer of molten, or liquid, metal found directly below Earth’s mantle
inner core a dense sphere of solid metal found in the center of Earth
composition the parts or elements that make up something
sedimentary rock rock formed when small particles of rocks or the remains of plants and animals are pressed and cemented together over time
metamorphic rock rock made from different types of rock and formed from great heat or pressure, usually deep underground
igneous rock rock that forms when magma or lava cools and hardens
rock cycle series of processes in which rocks change and are formed from one another
