| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| conduction | Direct transfer of energy (when objects are touching) |
| convection | Transfer of energy in fluids (liquids or gas), travels in convection currents |
| heat | The flow of something from higher to lower temperatures |
| energy | Ability to cause change |
| specific heat | The amount of heat needed to raise the temperature of 1kg of a material by 1 degree Celsius |
| temperature | The measure of the average kinetic energy of the particles in an object. |
| temperature increases | Speed of particles increases |
| mass | measurement of the amount of matter in an object |
| thermal energy | energy that comes from heat |
| energy transfer | When energy transfers from one place to another OR from one object to another |
| Law of Conservation of Energy | Energy cannot be created or destroyed |
| change in temperature | final temperature minus initial temperature |
| kinetic energy | energy of motion |
| potential energy | stored energy |
| Conductor | A material in which electrons are able to move easily ex. metal |
| Insulator | A material in which electrons are not able to move easily ex. wood, plastic, rubber, glass |
