| evaporation | the heating up of liquid water into water vapor |
| condensation | the cooling of water vapor back into a liquid |
| precipitation | rain, snow, sleet, and hail |
| percolation | the downward movement of water underground |
| water cycle | the cycle of processes by which water circulates between the earth's oceans, atmosphere, and land, involving precipitation as rain and snow, drainage in streams and rivers, and return to the atmosphere by evaporation and transpiration |
| transpiration | the process where plants release water vapor into the atmosphere through tiny pores called stomata on their leaves, essentially evaporating water from inside the plant itself; |
