Parkinson’s manifestations Tremor, rigidity, akinesia and bradykinesia, postural instability. Urinary retention and constipation, memory changes
Parkinson’s therapy Levodopa/carbidopa. Deep brain stimulation. Ablation surgery. Fiber, small spaced out protein
MS flare ups Infections, extreme temperatures, injury, stress, fatigue
MS manifestations Diploid, red-green distortion, scotoma, blindness in one eye. Fatigue, tinnitus, vertigo, dysphagia, muscle spasticity, incontenince, Uhthoffs sign, nystagmus
Uhthoff’s sign Worsening of vision and neuro functions when exposed to heat
MS management Prednisone, muscle spasm meds, eye patch, fluid, balanced exercise, avoid extreme temperatures, fluid and fiber
MS avoid Stress, sickness, smoking, sun
MG manifestations Muscles stronger in AM, diplopia, ptosis, dysphonia, dysphagia, decreased facial mobility
MG management Ice pack over eye, electromyogram. Admin IVIG (immune globulin), plasma exchange. Thymectomy. Intubation may be needed
MG triggers Respiratory infection, surgery, distress, pregnancy
GB manifestations Weakness begins in legs and progresses upwards. Paresthesia. Acute. Blindness, dysphagia, areflexia. After viral illness. It is a medical emergency due to respiratory failure.
GB management Mechanical ventilation, VTE prophylaxis, plasmas exchange, IVIG. G-tube if bulbar paralysis
ALS manifestations Fasciculations (twitching), weakness, lack of coordination, cramps, overactive DTRs, unintelligible speech, dysphagia, aspiration is a RISK
ALS management Prevent complications, mechanical ventilation
SLE manifestations Fever, fatigue, joint pain, swelling, butterfly rash, nephritis, discoid rash, seizures, strokes, cognitive impairment, alopecia, oral ulcers, hypertension, osteoporosis
SLE management Corticosteroids, NSAIDS. Calcium/vitamin D supplements
