Cell Wall (Bodyguard) A rigid layer that surrounds the cell. It protects and supports the cell.
Cell Membrane (Screen) A thin, flexible barrier that surrounds a cell and controls which substances pass in and out of a cell.
Cytoplasm (Swimming Pool) Gel like fluid that fills most of the cell; moves nutrients, proteins, and organelles within the cell.
Nucleus (Brain) Direct + cell activities
Endoplasmic Reticulum (Highway) Helps make proteins and other substances
Ribosomes (Protein Factory) Produces proteins needed by cells
Golgi Appartus (Gift Wrapper) Packages and distributes materials from the E.R.
Mitochondrion (Powerhouse) Converts energy in food into energy used by a cell
Chloroplast (The Green Machine) Makes food for cells using energy from the sunlight
Lysosomes (Food Processor) Breaks down food particles and worn out cell parts
Vacuole (Warehouse) Stores water, food, waste products, or other materials
