Railroads

| infrastructure | the basic systems and structures, like roads, bridges, and buildings, that a place needs to work properly |
| logistics | the planning and managing of how goods or people are moved from one place to another |
| efficiency | how well something works without wasting time, energy, or resources |
| monopoly | when one company or person controls all of the supply of something and there’s no competition |
| locomotive | the engine that pulls a train |
| switchyard | place to organize trains and assign them to different tracks |
| freight | goods or products that are moved from one place to another by train, truck, or ship |
| right-of-way | the land or path that a railroad is granted to use for its tracks |
| depot | a station where trains pick up and drop off passengers or goods |
| gauge | the distance between the two rails of a railroad track |
| ties | the wooden or concrete pieces that hold the rails in place |
| rails | the metal tracks on which trains run |
