model a pretend version of something that scientists use when the real thing is too big, small, or complicated to work with
active volcano a volcano that is erupting or that is likely to erupt in the future
extinct volcano a volcano that is not likely to erupt in the future
Ring of Fire a group of active volcanoes that forms a circle shape around the Pacific Ocean
