Ch. 25 Denture care

| a.m care | care given in the early morning when the patient first awakens. |
| caries | tooth decay or cavities |
| dentures | artificial teeth |
| halitosis | bad breath |
| oral hygiene | care of the mouth and teeth |
| periodontal disease | potentially serious conditions that damages the soft tissue and bone that support the teeth. |
| p.m. care | care given to prepare a patient for sleep. |
| anticoagulant | medications that thin the blood and increase the risk of bleeding. |
| bridging | elevates an area of the body off the surface of the bed. |
| foot board | The footrest is a device placed between the mattress and bed to keep the feet at right angles to the legs (natural standing position). |
| foot drop | The legs calf muscles tend to tighten, causing the toes to position downward. |
| Incontinent | having no insufficient voluntary control over urination or defecation. |
| Fracture Bedpan | Used for patients who can't elevate the pelvic area. such as those with a hip or pelvic fracture. |
| Commode | a movable shape piece of furniture containing a concealed chamber pot. |
| Urinal | a bowl or other respectable, typically attached to a wall in a public restroom, into which men may urinate. |
