Ch. 25 Denture care

TermDefinition
a.m care care given in the early morning when the patient first awakens.
caries tooth decay or cavities
dentures artificial teeth
halitosis bad breath
oral hygiene care of the mouth and teeth
periodontal disease potentially serious conditions that damages the soft tissue and bone that support the teeth.
p.m. care care given to prepare a patient for sleep.
anticoagulant medications that thin the blood and increase the risk of bleeding.
bridging elevates an area of the body off the surface of the bed.
foot board The footrest is a device placed between the mattress and bed to keep the feet at right angles to the legs (natural standing position).
foot drop The legs calf muscles tend to tighten, causing the toes to position downward.
Incontinent having no insufficient voluntary control over urination or defecation.
Fracture Bedpan Used for patients who can't elevate the pelvic area. such as those with a hip or pelvic fracture.
Commode a movable shape piece of furniture containing a concealed chamber pot.
Urinal a bowl or other respectable, typically attached to a wall in a public restroom, into which men may urinate.
