NA Gait Belt Steps
ASSISTS TO AMBULATE (Skill 3)

| step 1 | knock, introduce, check id, explain, wheels, lower bed, provide privacy, provide call bell |
| step 2 | go wash hands and gather supplies (transfer belt) |
| step 3 | assist resident to sit up and dangle |
| step 4 | apply non-skid shoes/socks |
| step 5 | have resident raise arms then apply and fasten transfer belt |
| step 6 | have resident place their hands on my shoulders |
| step 7 | count to three before assisting resident to stand |
| step 8 | ask resident if they are okay once they are standing |
| step 9 | while holding onto transfer belt, move behind and slightly to the side of resident |
| step 10 | pivot resident ten steps slowly |
| step 11 | assist resident to sit on bed and remove transfer belt |
| step 12 | assist resident back into bed and straighten covers |
| step 13 | wheels, lower bed, REMOVE privacy, provide call bell |
| step 14 | wash hands |
| step 15 | "skill complete!" |
