Electrical Transm.
Electrical Transmission
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| electrical grid | a network for delivering electricity from producers to consumers |
| transmission lines | high-voltage wires that carry electricity over long distances |
| conductors | materials (like copper or aluminum) that allow electricity to flow through them easily |
| resistance | the opposition within any material to the movement of electric current |
| voltage | the force that pushes electrical energy (like a "pressure" that pushes electricity through wires) |
| current | the flow of electric charge in a conductor between two points (like the "amount" of electricity flowing) |
| transformers | devices that increase or decrease the voltage of an electric current |
| insulators | materials that do not allow electricity to flow through them easily |
| shield wires | wires placed above the transmission lines to protect them from lightning strikes |
| magnetic fields | invisible areas of energy created by the electricity on high-voltage lines |
| distribution | the process of delivering electricity to homes and businesses |
