| full weight-bearing (FWB) | The ability to stand on both legs |
| gait belt | used to assist with ambulation |
| manual patient handling | moving a patient by hand or bodily force |
| mechanical lift | manually operated hydraulic |
| nonweight-bearing (NWB) | no pressure on legs, arms etc |
| paralysis | inability to move |
| paresis | weakness of an extremity |
| partial weight-bearing (PWB) | may bear some weight |
| pivot | turning the entire body as one unit |
| sitting (lateral) transfer | sitting throughout the transfer |
| sliding board | plastic or wooden board about 2 feet long and has a slippery surface |
| standing transfer | patient stands while transfers with 2 nursing assistants |
| weight-bearing (WB) | Ability to stand on one or both legs |
