| prehistoric | something that occurred a long time ago |
| dinosaur | a reptile that lived on Earth during the Jurassic period of Earth's history |
| extinct | an organism that once lived but now there are none alive. |
| Geologic Time Scale | a record of the time periods in Earth's history. |
| conglomerate rock | a type of sedimentary rock that includes stone, pebbles or other rock pieces. |
| sedimentary rock | a type of rock that has formed through deposition and is made up of sediments. |
| weathering | the breaking down of rocks into smaller and smaller pieces. |
| erosion | when soil and rocks are moved away from their original location. |
| delta | where a river meets the ocean |
| deposition | when sediments are deposited or dropped onto the floor of a body of water. |
| fossil | the remains or traces of plants and animals that lived long ago. |
| glacier | a slow moving river of ice formed by the build up of ice and snow on mountains or near the north and south poles. |
| Limestone | a type of sedimentary rock formed from the remains of shells and coral. |
| Model | something used to represent the way something works. |
| pothole | a hole in the road caused from freezing and thawing |
| recede | when a glacier melts backward toward the coldest area. |
| rock profile | a vertical section of rock showing the various rock layers. |
| Sandstone | a type of sedimentary rock that has formed from grains of sand. |
| sediments | the material that settles to the bottom of a body of water over time. |
| shale | a type of sedimentary rock made from clay or mud, it's weak or easily broken. |
| slope | the steepness of a hill |
| elevation | how high or low a feature of the land is, for instance, the mountains are at a higher elevation than the sea. |
| topographic map | a special type of map that shows the contours of the land with the use of contour lines. |
| Contours | shapes of the land. |
| Natural Disaster | A naturally occurring event that harms humans or the environment. |
| tsunami | A large potentially dangerous wave in the ocean, caused by an underwater shock. |
| Mastodon | An large, extinct elephant-like animal, related to the mammoth but smaller. |
| mammoth | a large, extinct elephant like animal, similar to a mastodon but larger. |
| earthquake | A sudden shaking of the Earth's surface caused by moving tectonic plates. |
| Bedrock | solid rock found under the soil |
