| premise | the central argument or claim an author or speaker is trying to convince their audience to agree with or believe, the position a writer presents and defends |
| counter argument | contradicting or opposing views the author discusses and proves wrong |
| supporting details | reasons, evidence, and information that supports or proves the premise |
| target audience | the reader or the group of people the writer or speaker is trying to convince |
| bias | when the writer or speaker has a subjective point of view, they have strong opinions based in their personal connection and feelings about the topic |
| factual claim | a statement that is claiming to be true and can be proven |
| opinion | a personal view or belief about a topic |
| assertion | a forceful statement meant to evoke strong feelings, probably true but cannot be proven |
| analogy | a comparison of the relationship between the two things |
| anecdote | a short story about a real person or situation that is used as evidence to support premise |
| allusion | an indirect reference to a story or something |
