What is a fault? A break in the Earth's crust.
What is the core? The inner layer of the Earth.
What is magma? It is hot, molten rock under Earth's crust.
What is an earthquake? A movement of the ground caused by a sudden release of energy in Earth's crust.
What is Pangaea? A supercontinent that existed millions of years ago.
What is the mantle? The middle layer of the Earth.
What is a volcano? An opening that allows magma to reach Earth's surface.
What is the crust? The outer layer of the Earth.
What is lava? Magma that has reached Earth's surface through a volcano.
Why do the Earth's tectonic plates move? There are breaks in the crust and they move because the magma in the mantle is always moving.
What forms when plates push together? Mountains
What forms when plates pull apart? Rifts form
What happens when plates slide past one another? Earthquakes
What machine is used to measure earthquakes? Seismograph
What is the name of the number scale used to measure an earthquake's strength? Richter scale
How can earthquakes be constructive? They can form mountains, volcanoes, and bodies of water.
How can earthquakes be destructive? They destroy buildings, split ground, cause tsunamis, kill people.
If there was earthquake, where would you rather be and why? The country because there are no buildings to fall on you.
How are volcanoes constructive? They create more land and fertile soil.
How can volcanoes be destructive? It burns things, creates poisonous gas, causes tsunamis, and pollutes the atmosphere.
What is the Ring of Fire and where is it located? It is an area around the Pacific Ocean where most volcanoes and earthquakes are found.
