Q: What do the terms "superficial" and "deep" refer to in anatomy? Superficial means closer to the skin, while deep means further from the skin.
What do the terms "superior" and "inferior" indicate? Superior means towards the head, and inferior means towards the feet
Give an example of superior and inferior in the human body The rib cage is superior to the pelvis, while the femur is inferior to the pelvis
What is the anatomical position? A person stands upright, facing forward, with arms at their sides and palms facing forward.
Why are directional terms important in healthcare? They provide uniform language to describe the body's anatomy, ensuring clear communication about a patient's condition
What are the three distinct parts of the skin? The dermis, hypodermis, and epidermis
What is the primary function of the dermis? It provides mechanical protection, serves as a water and electrolyte reserve, and hosts sensory receptors
What is the composition of the hypodermis? The hypodermis is mostly composed of adipose tissue and helps attach the skin to underlying muscles or fascia
How is pH defined? pH is the measure of hydrogen ion concentration in a solution; higher hydrogen ions indicate acidity, while lower levels indicate alkalinity
What happens to pH levels after vomiting? pH levels increase (become more alkaline) due to the loss of hydrochloric acid, resulting in decreased acidity
