| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Transfer | The movement of energy from one place to another |
| Motion | A change in position |
| Wave | A pattern of motion that transfers energy from one place to another |
| Conductivity | The ability of a material to allow energy to pass through |
| Insulator | A material that slows or stops the flow of thermal or electrical energy |
| Thermal Energy | The total energy of moving particles that make up an object, observable in the object’s state of matter and how it transfers heat |
| Electrical Energy | The energy of charged particles called electrons |
| Closed Circut | A complete path through which electrical energy can travel |
| Open Circut | An incomplete path through which electrical energy cannot travel |
| Current | The flow of electricity in a circuit |
| Mechanical Energy | The energy of motion and moving parts |
| Sound Energy | The energy of vibrations; energy we can hear |
| Kinetic Energy | The form of energy that it possesses due to its motion |
| Potential Energy | The energy held by an object because of its position relative to other objects, stresses within itself, its electric charge, or other factors |
| Chemical Energy | The energy of chemical substances that is released when the substances undergo a chemical reaction and transform into other substances |
| Work | The energy transferred to or from an object via the application of force along a displacement |
| Collision | When two objects come in to direct contact and energy is transferred |
| Circut | A complete path around which electricity can flow |
| Energy | The ability to do work or cause change |
| Light Energy | The energy of photons that travel in straight lines in waves; energy we can see |
| Speed | How fast an object is moving |
| Conductor | A material that allows thermal or electrical energy to pass through |
| Fuse | A device that shuts off power to an electrical circuit when there is too much current |
| Output Device | A component added to a circuit for energy transformations such as a lightbulb, motor, or bell |
| Switch | A component in a circuit that controls the flow of electricity |
