Biology Lab exam

animal and plant tissue and mitosis

QuestionAnswer
What are the 4 primary tissue types? Epithelial, connective, muscular, and nervous
What is avascular? lacking blood vessels
How many layers are in simple? 1
How many layers are in stratified? 2+
How many layers are in pseudo stratified? 1 but looks more
What shape is squamous? scale and flat
How is parenchyma at maturity? thin walled and alive Stores starch oil and water. Heals plant wounds
How is sclerenchyma at maturity? thick walled and dead Makes line. And rope
Where do we see nectar? in the secretory structures
What are carnivorous plants? Venus fly trap and nepenthes
Columnar epithelium Lining of intestines and stomach. Absorption secretion. Microvilli increases surface area
Stratified squamous epithelium Skins epidermis and lining of mouth Protection.
Adipose Breast tissue Stores energy and insulation and hormone producer
Areolar Between epidermis and muscle Support and cushioning. Tissue repair and immune response
Hyaline cartilage Joints and nose Shock absorption. Cushions body structure
Blood Veins and arteries Transport blood throughout body delivering o2 and nutrients
Osseous/ bone tissue Company and spongy bones Support movement and protection
Epidermis dead or alive at maturity? Alive at maturity Protects plant Has root hair
Collenchyma Thick walled and alive at maturity Uneven walls and strands of it are found in celery strings
Secretory structure Storing and secreting oils. Milkweed opium poppy and latex
Asclepias Milkweed
hevea brasiliensis Rubber
Papaver somniferum Opium poppy
Regeneration Epithelial cells undergo cellular division at high rates allowing tissue to replace worn out cells
Cell division Produces 2 daughter cells
Interphase Cell grows and carries on usual activities
Mitotic phase Cell division
G1 Growth and metabolism Checkpoint
S phase DNA replication growth and dna synthesis
G2 Final preparation for division and growth
Early prophase Chromatin condensed forming visible chromosomes
Late prophase Nomo nuclear envelope. Spindle fibers attack chromosomes move
Metaphase Lining up to the middle Spindle fibers attach to centromere
Anaphase Chromatids split away Spindle fiber pulls chromosomes to opposite ends of cell
Telophase 2 nucleus form and the membranes back Chromosomes back to chromatid
Cytokinesis Cell membrane punches to form 2 identical cells
Metaphase plate Imaginary line running thru center of cell in metaphase
Do plants have centrioles No but they have spindle fibers. A cell plate forms instead of the cell membrane pinching
Centromere Holds chromatids together to make chromosomes
Centrosome Organizes microtubules Made of 2 centrioles
