Wind Power - Past and Present
| Term | Definition |

| Wind power | The transformation of the wind's kinetic energy into electrical energy using turbines. |
| Onshore | Located on land, as opposed to in the water or air. |
| Offshore | Situated or taking place in the sea, away from the coast. |
| Mechanical energy | The energy of an object or system due to its motion or position; it can be either kinetic or potential energy. |
| Generator | A machine that converts mechanical energy into electrical energy |
| NIMBY | Not In My Backyard - A term denoting opposition by residents to a proposal for a new development close to them, while they might support the development if it was built farther away. |
| AC | Alternating Current - An electric current that reverses direction in a circuit at regular intervals. |
| DC | Direct Current - An electric current flowing in one direction only. |
| Re-powered | Upgrading or replacing older equipment (in this context, old wind turbines) with newer, more efficient equipment. |
| Turbine | A machine that captures the energy in moving air or water and uses it to produce electricity. |
| Renewable energy | Energy from a source that is not depleted when used, such as wind or solar power. |
| Nacelle | The enclosed space at the top of a wind turbine tower containing the generator and usually including the gearbox, if used. |
