| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Settle down | To become stable, usually in terms of career or relationships. Ex: After many years of experiencing short term relationships, he needed to settle down. |
| Take up | To start doing a particular activity or hobby. Ex: Taking up swimming was one of the best decisions that Itook in summer. |
| Take after | To resemble a family member in appearance of behavior. Ex: My cousin took after his father as he shares the same manners and gestures. |
| Set up | To arrange or organize something. Ex. She decided to set up a grocery store in order to earn a greater income. |
| Take over | To assume control or responsibility for something. Ex: The manager took over the failure of the funding round. |
| Turn down | To reject or refuse an order. Ex: In the end, I turned down that job offer because there were no references about the company's past at all. |
| Run out of | To exhaust the supply of something Ex: During the 1980s, many Peruvian families run out of milk and bread supplies as there were food shortages. |
| Work out | To find a solution or resolve something. Ex: Let's hope this pill works out for your terrible flu. |
| Show up/Turn up | To appear or arrive unexpectedly. Ex: My uncle who lives in Spain showed up on my birthday. |
| Turn up | To increase the level of something. Ex: Turn up the volume, I want to listen the film's dialogues. |
