| Term | Definition |

| International System of Units | A version of the metric system used by modern scientists. |
| Volume | The amount of space an object or substance takes up. The basic unit of measurement for liquid is the liter and solid is the cubic meter. |
| Mass | The measure of the amount of matter in an object. This measurement is constant, even on the moon. The basic unit of measurement is the kilogram. |
| Metric System | A measurement system based on the number 10. Includes meters, liters and grams. Does NOT include inches, pounds or yards. |
| Weight | A measure of the force of gravity acting against an object. This measurement is not constant and can change when gravity changes, like on the moon. |
| Density | A measure of how much mass is contained in a given volume. This stays the same no matter the sample size. |
