Term | Definition |

Conflict | the problem or struggle in a story; the tension that moves the story forward |
Plot | the sequence of events in a story |
Exposition | the beginning of the story; the reader is introduced to the main character and the setting of the story |
Rising Action | the main part of the story; where the conflict moves the story forward; suspense builds |
Climax | the most intense part of the story for the protagonist; also called the turning point |
Falling Action | events that happen after the climax; conflict(s) begin moving toward resolution |
Resolution/Denouement | the end of the story; conflicts are resolved; questions in the story are answered |
Protagonist | usually the main character in story; the character who makes the major decisions to move the plot forward; usually the character who experiences the most conflict |
Antagonist | he character(s) who is against the protagonist; can be a character who creates external conflict for the protagonist |
Suspense | - a feeling or excitement or anxiousness about what may happen next in a story |
Science Fiction | a genre of fiction where the setting of the story occurs in the future, and involves some form technology that has changed life |

Resilient | the ability to recover quickly from bad luck or something negative |
