TermDefinition
Phylogenetic Tree a diagram that shows the evolutionary history of species, or traits, over time.
Speciation the process by which a single species evolves into two or more distinct species that can no longer interbreed
Geographic Isolation Physical separation of organisms in different environments resulting in the development of different adaptations over time.
Temporal Isolation A reproductive isolation that prevents different organisms from mating due to the time of day or season in which they mate.
Behavioral Isolation Actions that organisms must do to attract a mate for reproduction.
Mechanical Isolation When reproductive organs of species are not compatible with eachother.
Adaptation Any inherited trait, selected for through natural selection, that makes an organism it for its environment.
Structural Adaptation Physical traits that make an organism fit for their particular environment.
Physiological Adaptation Internal processes that help organisms survive and reproduce in their particular environment.
Behavioral Adaptation Actions that organisms do to survive and reproduce in their particular environment.
