biotic consists of living organisms

organism a living thing that has an organized structure, can react to stimuli, reproduce, grow, adapt, and maintain homeostasis
populations a group of individuals of the same species living and interbreeding within a given area
community a social group of any size whose members reside in a specific locality, share government, and often have a common cultural and historical heritage.
ecosystems a community of living organisms (plants, animals and microbes) in a particular area.
biosphere the region on, above, and below the Earth's surface where life exists.
photosynthesis A chemical process that occurs in plants, algae, and some types of bacteria, when they are exposed to sunlight
producer organisms that can make their own energy through biochemical processes
cellular respiration the process by which organisms use oxygen to break down food molecules to get chemical energy for cell functions
consumer an organism that cannot produce its own food and must eat other plants and/or animals to get energy
herbivore an animal that feeds on plants.
carnivore An animal that feeds chiefly on the flesh of other animals.
omnivore an animal or person that eats food of both plant and animal origin.
trophic levels the position it occupies in a food web.
food chain a series of organisms that eat one another so that energy and nutrients flow from one to the next.
food Webb a system of interlocking and interdependent food chains.
energy pyramid a model that shows the flow of energy from one trophic, or feeding, level to the next in an ecosystem
detritivore an animal which feeds on dead organic material, especially plant detritus.
decomposer organism that breaks down dead organic material
primary production the production of chemical energy in organic compounds by living organisms.
