| ecosystems | a community of living organisms (plants, animals and microbes) in a particular area. |
| biosphere | the region on, above, and below the Earth's surface where life exists. |
| photosynthesis | A chemical process that occurs in plants, algae, and some types of bacteria, when they are exposed to sunlight |
| producer | organisms that can make their own energy through biochemical processes |
| cellular respiration | the process by which organisms use oxygen to break down food molecules to get chemical energy for cell functions |
| consumer | an organism that cannot produce its own food and must eat other plants and/or animals to get energy |
