| constipation | inability to eliminate stool OR an infrequent, difficult, painful elimination of hard/dry stool |

| diarrhea | frequent elimination of liquid/semiliquid feces |
| digestion | converting food to absorb it into the blood and use it for body tissues |

| flatulence | air in intestine passed through rectum, also called gas/flatus |
| fracture pan | flatter than normal bedpan, used for small/thin ppl or ppl who can't lift buttocks |

| homeostasis | condition where all body systems are balanced and working at their best |
| ingestion | taking food/fluids into body |
| malabsorption | body cannot absorb/digest a particular nutrient properly |

| ostomy | surgical opening from area inside body to the outside |
| peristalsis | muscular contractions that push food through gastrointestinal tract |
| portable commode | chair w/ toilet seat and removable container underneath used for elimination |
| stoma | artificial opening in the body |
