Anatomical Direction

TermDefinition
Anatomic position Standing erect, facing observe, feet flat on floor and slightly separated, arms at sides, pals forward.
Superior(cranial) Toward the head; upward
Inferior ( caudal) Below another part
Anterior ( ventral) In anatomy, in front of the coronal or ventral plane.
Posterior ( dorsal) Back or back of
Proximal Close to the point of attachment
Distal Farthest away from a central point, such as point of attachment of muscles
Deep Away from the surface or further into the body.
Superficial Closer to the surface of the body
Medial Close to the mid line of the body or structure
Lateral Away from the mid line
Mid Line A line in the sagittal plane, splitting the right and left halves evenly.
