| mixture | a physical combination of two or more substances that are blended together without forming new substances |
| separate | to break apart into pieces |
| dissolve | to mix completely into a liquid |
| solution | a mixture of substances that are blendes so completely that the mixture looks the same throughout |
| conservation of matter | a scientific rule that matter is neither created nor destroyed during a change |
| heterogeneous (non-uniform) | a type of mixture; the components are NOT evenly distribued throughout the mixture |
| homogeneous (uniformed) | a type of mixture; components ARE eveny distributed through out the mixture. |
| solutes | the substance that breakes down and dissolves in the solution |
| solvent | the substance that dissolves the solute, usually has more volume that the solute |
