Seasons

Why do we have seasons?

TermDefinition
Rotation The spinning around and axis
Orbit The line which an object rotates.
Revolution The orbit of an object around another.
Solstices When earth’s axis is tilted directly away to toward the sun.
Equinox When earth’s axis is tilted neither away or toward the sun.
Phase The lit part of the moon or planet that can be seen from Earth.
Waxing phase This period of getting bigger is called waxing. As the moon waxes from a new moon to the first quarter (when half of the moon is visible), it has a crescent shape.
Waning Phase After the full moon, the percentage of the illuminated surface that we can see gets smaller and smaller, until it disappears and we have a new moon again.
Umbra The central darker part of the shadow.
Penumbra The less dark part of the shadow
