| Description | Is a spoken or written summary of observations |
| Qualitative description | Such as bright red, uses sense (sight, sound, smell, touch, taste) to describe and observation |
| Quantitative description | Such as 630 degrees uses numbers and measurements to describe an observation |
| Explanation | Is an interpretation of observation |
| The international System of Units | Is the internationally accepted system for measurement |
| Science | Is the investigation and exploration of nature events and of the new information that results from those investigations |
| Earth science | Including rocks, soils, oceans, the atmosphere, and surface features. |
| Life science | The study of living things or biology |
| Physical Science | The study of matter and energy, physics and chemistry |
| Observation | Is the act of using one or more of your senses to gather information and taking note of what occurs |
| Inference | Is a logical explanation of an observation that is drawn from prior knowledge or experience |
| Hypothesis | Is a possible explanation for an observation that can be tested by scientific investigations |
| Prediction | Is a statement of what will happen next in a sequence of events |
| Critical thinking | Is comparing what you already know with the information you are given in order to decide whether you agree with it |
| Skepticism | Is to doubt the truthfulness or accuracy of something |
