| conduction | The transfer of heat through direct contact. |
| convection | The transfer of heat through warm air rising and cold air falling. |
| radiation | The transfer of heat through waves; nothing touches. |
| insulator | A material that does not allow heat to transfer through it. |
| conductor | A material that allows heat to travel through it easily. |
| thermal energy | The energy of moving molecules in an object. |
| electrical energy | The energy that flows within an electric circuit. |
| radiant energy | Energy which is transferred through waves such as visible light, X-Rays, and UV light. |
| mechanical energy | The energy due to the motion and position of an object. |
| chemical energy | The energy that is stored within the chemical bonds of matter. |
| law of conservation of energy | states that energy cannot be created or destroyed but it can change forms |
| renewable energy | An energy source that is replenished continuously |
| nonrenewable energy | an energy source that cannot be replenished easily. |
| elastic potential energy | Energy being stored in something that is being stretched or compressed |
| gravitational potential energy | affected by the height and mass of an object |
| energy transformation | when a form of energy changes to another form |
| circuit | must contain a power source, transformer and a conductor |
| force | a push or pull exerted on an object |
| work | When an object moves due to a push or a pull |
| energy | the ability to do work |
| potential energy | the stored energy in any object, substance or system |
| kinetic energy | the energy of an object, substance, or system in motion |
